A residence situated in a bird sanctuary subdivision in Antipolo. The mountainside home rests on an upward-sloping lot. With strict restrictions regarding the height, half of the structure was placed below grade to achieve the height limit of 9m from the sidewalk in front. The main door of the house is accessed through stepping stones placed on a mound at the front of the house.
The mound is a nod to the site’s original sloping topography and also creates a visual interest that highlights the upper portion of the mid-century-inspired house. The spaces on the lower ground floor contains the work areas of the owners, a guest room and the entertainment area which opens to the garden and koi pond. The Entertainment area is a semi-enclosed space with a floor-to-ceiling sliding gate. The upper ground floor spaces contain the main living areas and the bedrooms. Large windows and sliding doors are used all over the house to maximize the view of the surrounding nature and to welcome more natural light indoors.
