This house is a modern, tropical residence located on a hill in Alfonso, Cavite. Intended to be a rest house and a resort, the owners wanted the design to be inviting, cozy, filled with natural light and ventilation and have views of the surrounding scenery.
The house was placed on top of the highest point of the lot to maximize the views. It is also oriented in such a way that it receives more natural light during the morning while the west facing side has less openings or wider eaves to prevent the harsh afternoon sun. The entrance which is on the west side has an overhang roof to provide protection from rain and sun. It also gives a luxurious feel as you enter the house.
The high ceiling in the interior was achieved with the use of two inverted trusses joined in the middle. The wood ceiling lit from the lower edge continues the extravagant yet cozy ambience. The living room, dining area, kitchen and entertainment area are all in one open space where only the ceiling height gives visual clues of transitions from one area to another.
Large windows with sliding glass doors open to the wide open space with views of the hills and mountains at a distance. This part of the house receives most of the natural light during the morning and also functions as the main passage for natural airflow.
